Moving across different periods of Naumann’s practice, RETROSPECT traces the experiences, relationships, and emotions that have shaped his work over time.

Together, the works offer more than a look back. They reveal an artist continually returning to the ideas and experiences that have stayed with him, and to the human stories that have compelled him to create.

At the heart of the exhibition is a body of work created nearly three decades ago whose message remains profoundly present today.

NEVER FORGET . . . NEVER AGAIN

The story begins with a friendship.

Dana Baldwin Naumann’s friendship with Holocaust survivor Sigmund Strochlitz brought him closer to a history that, while not his own, affected him profoundly.

From that relationship emerged Never Forget . . . Never Again, a deeply personal series of seventeen hammered lead sculptures, each accompanied by a poem written by the artist.

Through sculpture and poetry, Naumann confronts memory, suffering, loss, compassion, and the responsibility of remembrance. Presented together, the seventeen works form an experience that asks us not only to look back, but to consider what it means to remember in the present.

For RETROSPECT, Naumann returned to the poems and recorded all seventeen in his own voice. Hearing the words spoken by the artist brings another dimension to the work, reconnecting the sculptures with the emotions and experiences from which they emerged.

The complete Never Forget . . . Never Again series can now also be experienced online. Each of the seventeen works is presented individually with its image, artwork details, and an audio recording of Naumann reading the poem created for it.
