VISUAL INVITATIONS brings together 21 paintings by Margaret B. Dean, shaped by places she has known, traveled through, and carried with her.

Through light, color, and atmosphere, familiar landscapes and distant destinations become deeply personal encounters. Together, the works invite us to pause, look closely, and experience the quiet wonder she finds in the world around her.

Margaret B. Dean’s paintings begin with close attention to place. Trained as an artist and art educator, she found in plein air painting a way of working directly from nature, responding to light, color, and atmosphere as they unfold.

For decades, Dean has painted along the Connecticut shoreline and throughout its farms, gardens, villages, and historic landscapes. Her work has also carried her beyond Connecticut, through painting journeys in France and Portugal and a 2005 artist residency in Dinan, France.

Her career includes juried exhibitions, awards, elected artist memberships, teaching, public demonstrations, jury service, and leadership within the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. Across each part of that career, one purpose remains constant: to capture a moment in time and share the experience of seeing it.

In VISUAL INVITATIONS, each painting carries the memory of a place observed and felt. Together, the works reveal landscape not as fixed scenery, but as a living encounter shaped by attention, discovery, and the changing presence of light.
