Karen Pizzitola
Lives & Works in Ellington, Connecticut
Karen Pizzitola’s watercolors of rural New England begin with an attention to places easily overlooked and the lives once lived among them. A weathered farmhouse suggests someone’s home; fallen stones recall a wall built generations before. Her careful attention to detail invites us to linger, while her subjects connect the visible landscape to memories and histories we can only imagine. These paintings offer the quiet pleasure of looking closely and considering what a place can mean to the people who know it.

Karen Pizzitola was born in Maine and lives in Ellington, Connecticut. She connects her affection for rural places to her Maine background and finds ongoing inspiration in the farms and tobacco fields surrounding her Connecticut home.
She began painting more than two decades ago, stepping away after an initial period of practice to attend to other responsibilities. Her return to painting brought her back to subjects that continue to draw her attention: overlooked places, traces of earlier generations, and the changes that gradually reshape a familiar landscape. Through her watercolors, she hopes to evoke pleasant memories and offer a sense of stillness and connection to the past.
Pizzitola is also a licensed optician and co-owns The Eyeglass Place of Ellington with her daughter.
Her watercolors have received recognition in the Manchester Art Association’s Art of the Month competition:
Solitude — First place, December 2023
Aborn Castle — First place, March 2024
Stone House — Third place, April 2024
Charles Phelps — Third place, May 2024
